A Warm Welcome

We are delighted to be the hosts of CyclePyrenees. We are keen cyclists, and love France and good food.

Living in the heart of the Shropshire Hills, mountain biking was a much loved family activity when our children were growing up, with trips to lots of fantastic places in England, Wales, Scotland and France.

As our boys got older and braver, the MTB got a little extreme, so we started to spend more time road cycling. Over the years we have had some great cycling experiences in the UK, France, Mallorca, Sweden and Mauii.

We enjoy road cycling together, and Lee loves MTB and bike packing, when he gets the chance!

We look forward to welcoming you to our home in Vernajoul, where we will look after you and help you to explore the beautiful Ariege region.

Our Home

Situated on the hillside of Vernajoul, overlooking Foix, our house is a short downhill 2 km to Foix center. The house is surrounded by 1/2 an acre of beautiful gardens down a quiet lane.

Foix is situated in the Ariege Regional Park and at the foothills of the Pyrenees. Numerous climbs made famous by regular visits of the Tour De France are within a short ride of Foix. Col De Port, Col De Peguere and Plateau de Beille are just a few of the challenging climbs waiting for you to conquer.

For a more leisurely spin, take one of the many routes leading away from the Pyrenees, along the quiet and beautiful valleys of the Ariege. Stop for coffee at one of the ancient villages or market towns along the way.

Whether it’s climbing, or leisurely peddling along, you’re sure to enjoy cycling on the traffic free roads of the Ariege. We are keen cyclists and have a large database of local  rides that can be uploaded to your Garmin device.

Other Things To Do

Find below some of our suggestions for great days out, or check out this great website for more ideas:

Magnificent views of the Pyrenees from this 1000 year old Chateau. Built on a rocky outcrop, it's 3 towers dominate the medieval town of Foix. Strolling through the narrow streets in the old part of Foix, you can discover a variety of excellent eating places.

Small market town 15 kms south of Foix and gateway to the famous Route des cols. Prehistoric theme park, caves, rafting. This is the place if you are looking for adventure!

Everyone loves a visit to the medieval town of Mirepoix. It's large central square is surrounded by oak timbered galleries and picturesque half timbered houses. A multitude of cafes, restaurants and interesting shops.

A wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. Relax, and let the 35 degree heated water sooth those aching legs!! Tour de France stages have finished here. It’s also a great ski resort. Only a 40 minute drive away.

Great spot for a picnic or cafe stop on your bike ride. You can ride or drive through this 65 metre high, 500 metre long cave. With the sound of the river rushing alongside you, it's an experience not to miss.

Go to the snow!

Try cross country skiing and snow shoeing on the Plateau de Beille, or downhill skiing at Monts d'Olmes and Ax-3-Domaines .

Located just 3kms from our house, you can take a guided boat trip on Europes longest navigable underground river. A cool way to spend an hour on a hot day.

The Ariège has many kilometres of hiking routes to see spectacular mountains forests and lakes.
